What is an active AI agent?
An active AI Agent is an AI Agent that can be embedded on a website or other interface (WhatsApp, SMS) or the OpenDialog API. If an Agent is not active they can be tested and previewed through the OpenDialog workspace.
What are steps and active steps?
A step is an OpenDialog unit of measuring AI Agent activity and represents work that OpenDialog Agent Orchestration engine is performing. This includes interpreting user utterances with classifiers, executing LLM actions, executing API actions, calls to knowledge services for RAG. We will be providing detailed dashboards for you to be able to track consumption.
An active step is a step that is taken by an active AI agent – you will only be charged for active steps.
What is a token?
A token is the unit of consumption of LLM capability. We offer unlimited LLM tokens under the OpenDialog managed keys for GPT-4o-mini and 2 million tokens per month for GPT-4o. You can also bring your own account keys and in enterprise plans or dedicated hosting plans we can flexibly configure OpenDialog for use with your own models.
What data do you refer to as 'knowledge data' ?
Knowledge data refers to space that RAG embeddings occupy on our vector database. 100mb of embeddings is roughly 4000 pages of text. In case you are wondering how much that is – it is the equivalent of War and Peace and entire Lord of the Rings books combined, or two sets of Encyclopedia Brittanica!
When will I be billed?
Billing is monthly once you’ve upgrade to a Build or Scale plan. No billing if you stay on the Experiment plan although we periodically scan for inactive Experiment workspaces and will send you a friendly email to see if you still need it before deactivating.
What happens if I need more capacity than what is offered on the Scale plan

Why are there two pricing models for OpenDialog?
OpenDialog have built a category defining AI Agent Management System for the design, creation, delivery and management of AI Agents. Our platform serves two communities – those who wish to design, build, run and support their own AI Agents; and those who wish to be served by a customer AI Agent designed, built and managed for them. Our commercial models are aligned to the value OpenDialog delivers to each community.
What are my contractual commitments?
On our Enterprise Flexible plan, we ask for no long term contractual commitments. Clients simply pay for the Work Tasks delivered by their AI Agent, billed monthly in arrears.
What if I want to have predictable costs?
Our Enterprise Commit plan, clients can contract for a consistent monthly subscription for an expected volume of activity, in return for a reduction in the cost of Work Tasks. The higher the committed volume, the lower the cost. Volumes can be restricted to this level, or additional use can be charged in arrears.
What is a Work Task?
A Work Task is the execution of an activity by the AI Agent. This could include activities such as; answering a customer or patient query; booking an appointment; providing a quotation; binding a contract; making an adjustment or change; gathering information; and many more.
What about training the AI Agent?
OpenDialog or one of our accredited partners will work with you to design and build a custom AI Agent. These can be completely bespoke, or based on one of many templated Agents we have previously created.
Do I have to pay for AI Agent training?
This is provided as Professional Services for a fee based on the scope of work required. Our Enterprise Commit plans include the AI Agent training, as well as options to add ongoing change and update services.
